Overview

Overview
Ramkola Unit was commissioned in the year 1931 – 32 with a capacity of 600 TCD and started its commercial production during 1932 – 33 season. The unit is located in the Distt. Khushinagar in eastern U.P. The unit underwent expansion during the year 1957 and increased its capacity from 600 TCD to 1500 TCD. The unit has further expended its capacity from 1500 TCD to 2500 TCD during 1988-91.

At that time the unit has not only increased the capacity of the plant but also changed the manufacturing process from carbonation to sulphitation. At present Ramkola plant's existing capacity is 6500 TCD. The quality of sugar of the plant has also remarkably improved.

The cane is procured from 24256 ha cane area with the factory and from approx. 77550 cane farmers. Apart from the cane purchase at the factory gate, cane is also procured from 35 cane purchase out centres. The cane department of the plant has excelled in the management and operation of these cane out centres.

Technology
The Ramkola unit has undergone significant technological advancement. It installed short retention time clarifiers by SRI, Australia in 2006 – 07 with a retention time of 45 min, film type sulphur furnace of 200 kg /hr capacity in season 2006-07, three low head pans of capacity 80 M.T. each were installed in 2006-07 with mechanical circulators. Short retention time clarifier gives clearer juice than that of conventional type producing quality sugar. Reduction of sulphur consumption, minimum sublimation , minimum formation of SO-3 and optimum temprature of SO-2 gas are achieved by the film type sulphur furnace. By virtue of mechanical circulators the boiling time of pans has reduced and better molasses exhaustion has been achieved.

Advantages
Strategic Location of mill
Ramkola has good cane area as there is less competition from alternate sweetners and other sugar factories

Proximity to high sugar demand markets
Ramkola sugar mill is located close to the high sugar demand markets of eastern U.P., Bihar, West Bengal and other north eastern states. Thus, our primary markets are located close to our manufacturing facility and we do not rely on transporting our sugar to distant markets, which gives us a comparative advantage in distribution costs of this bulk commodity.

Excellent relationships with farmers
Ramkola being one of the oldest sugar mills in eastern U.P., has developed very strong relationship with the farmers for generations. We make timely payments to sugarcane farmers and have built excellent relationships and goodwill with them, which is an important factor in our industry. We have a good record of payments to farmers for sugarcane despite the cyclical nature of the sugar industry and have strong ties with sugarcane farmers.

Extensive Network for Sugarcane Collection
In order to facilitate the sale of sugarcane to us by the sugarcane farmers, apart from collection of sugarcane at factory gate, we have established an extensive network of collection centres in and around Ramkola, where the sugarcane is collected by us and payments are made to farmers.
