Deoband is the second largest sugar unit of the group. It was established in the year 1932 & expanded in phases to reach its present crush capacity of 14000 TCD. Deoband, located in Distt. Sahranpur in western U.P., has high cane intensity. The cane is procured from 33832 ha cane area with the factory and from approx. 45032 cane farmers. Apart from the cane purchase at the factory gate, cane is also procured from 125 cane purchase out centres. The cane department of the plant has excelled in the management and operation of these cane out centres.
The sugar mill was established with double sulphitation process of clarification in 1932-33. The clarification process was changed to double carbonation and double sulphitation in fifties. Again clarification process was changed to double sulphitation in 1992-93.
In the last couple of years, factory has been completely revamped and modernized. Some reorganization of the equipment was also taken up along with debottlenecking of various sections of the plant. Modern equipments like continuous vacuum pans & syrup clarification system designed by SRI Australia have been installed under modernization scheme of the plant. A part stream of low pressure & low capacity boilers & power turbines operating at 11 ata pressure have also been removed after installation of the co-generation power plant. The performance of the factory is now at par with the best sugar plants of India. Factory makes full use of the most modern high pressure (87 ata) & temperature (515 degree C) co-generation plant installed in 2004 to efficiently meet its steam and power demand. In fact, the installation of the efficient co-generation plant is also a main driver to achieve further energy efficiency in the sugar plant to maximize bagasse savings and power export to the state electricity grid. Factory has taken up a no. of steps to further optimize/reduce the power consumption of the plant which includes:
Strategic Location of Mill
Deoband sugar unit is located in Western U.P., an area with the largest concentration of cane cultivation, highly fertile and well irrigated land.
Proximity to high sugar demand markets
Deoband sugar mill is located close to the high sugar demand states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal. Thus, our primary markets are located close to our manufacturing facility and we do not rely on transporting our sugar to distant markets, which gives us a comparative advantage in distribution costs of this bulk commodity
Excellent relationships with farmers
Deoband being one of the oldest sugar mills in western U.P., has developed very strong relationship with the farmers for generations. We make timely payments to sugarcane farmers and have built excellent relationships and goodwill with them, which is an important factor in our industry. We have a good record of payments to farmers for sugarcane despite the cyclical nature of the sugar industry and have strong ties with approximately 45,032 sugarcane farmers.
Extensive network for sugarcane collection
In order to facilitate the sale of sugarcane to us by the sugarcane farmers, apart from collection of sugarcane at factory gate, we have established an extensive network of collection centres in and around Deoband, where the sugarcane is collected by us and payments are made to farmers.
Good product quality
The sugar produced by Deoband sugar mill is bold grained and is rated as one of the better qualities of sugar produced in western Uttar Pradesh. This enables us to command a premium on the sugar produced by us.
