Problems Faced: Oil tankers having crude oil pump turbine from overseas manufactures were constantly in problem of high backlash resulting in lower performance of pumps. Ships used to take more time to unload the Crude oil to the base unit, due to fauly performance of the Crude oil pump turbines, which were due to high pitting and backlash and not cleared by the classification agency for further operation. The replacement of spares used to take more time and the docking charges were constrained

Solution offered by Triveni: Triveni experts were called to inspect the gearinternals and after the thorough discussion suggested replacement of the gearinternals on board.

Implementation: Gearinternals dimensions were taken on board and replaced with New internals at shortest possible time due to flexibility in production facilities of the gearboxes in Triveni. Triveni since then has inventory of possible forging sizes to quickly produce the gearinternals to suit the fast delivery requirements of Shipping industry

Customer Experience: Shipyard and the shipping companies were benefitted with the fastest delivery of the gearset, which was replaced during docking for repairs . Problems Faced : Original Gearbox of European make (10.5 MW) had chronical problems of turning gear and the gearinternals were wearing out

Solution offered by Triveni: Triveni's service engineer visited the site and suggested modification of theTurning gear and after detailed study, The unit was suggeted to replace the gearbox with modified turning gear.

Implementation: A new gearbox suiting to the existing load conditions with modified turning gear system was supplied and installed at site.
