Carbon Filters use carbon of a specific grade as media & are mainly used for polishing applications i.e. for the colour and odor removal. Internally it is fitted with inlet distributor and a bottom collecting system. Externally, it is fitted with frontal pipe work and isolation valves. Activated carbon is used in these filter having pebbles and gravels as support media. Backwash of this filter to be carried out at a regular interval for the removal of accumulated suspended solids as accumulation of these particle over carbon media will reduce the adsorption capacity of carbon. Since the main application is to remove the colour and odour, a sand filter is normally required as pretreatment to this filter in order to avoid the accumulation of suspended particles over the carbon.
